#PoliceDashcam #CrimeInvestigation #JavonHarper #policeprocedure On January 18th, the San Antonio Police Department released a video regarding an officer-involved shooting that occurred on Southcross Boulevard. Two officers, patrolling in a single vehicle, noticed an SUV with a broken taillight and initiated a traffic stop. Upon approaching the vehicle, the officers detected the odor of marijuana and questioned the driver about any weapons. The driver denied possessing any drugs or firearms, claiming it was his girlfriend’s car. During the encounter, the officer on the driver’s side asked the suspect to step out. The driver questioned whether he was being detained, and upon confirmation, resisted the officers’ attempts to detain him. A physical struggle ensued, during which one officer observed a handgun, which the suspect acknowledged possessing. Fearing for their safety, both officers drew their service weapons, and one officer fired a single round. A loaded firearm and narcotics were later recovered near the suspect. Dash cam footage provides a visual record of the interaction, though it lacks audio; body cameras captured verbal commands and physical engagement. Following the shooting, the suspect, identified as Javon Harper, was transported to a hospital where he later died. The San Antonio Police Department emphasizes that investigations into deadly force incidents are thorough and can take over a year. All officer-involved shootings are forwarded to the Bexar County District Attorney’s office for review. The department has stated that its current understanding may change as additional evidence is collected, and no final determinations regarding procedural compliance have been made at this time.
