On October 13, 2024, Kent Police Officer Walker observed a vehicle run a red light. He initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle, which was being driven by a 21-year-old woman. She claimed to be on her way home from work. The police report indicates that Officer Walker noticed that the woman's speech was slurred. She was asked how much alcohol she had consumed and she only admitted to one mixed drink. As a result, she was asked to step out the vehicle in order to perform standardized field sobriety tests. After the tests, she was placed under arrest for Operating a Vehicle Under the Influence (OVI). The police report indicates she submitted to a breath test and the result was 0.228% BAC. She was charged with OVI, Operating with a Prohibited Breath Alcohol Concentration, and Failure to Stop at a Red Light. On January 23, 2025, she pleaded guilty to the OVI charge and the other 2 charges were dismissed. She was fined $425 plus court costs, ordered to attend a 3-day Driver's Intervention Program, and her license was suspended for 1 year.
