In this incident from October 11, 2024, police in Bergenfield, New Jersey, were dispatched to a local business just after 2 AM after a 30-year-old male allegedly destroyed a fall display made of hay and cornstalks. The business owner wanted to pursue criminal charges, but because officers did not witness the vandalism and the suspect denied the act, the owner was advised to file complaints independently. As officers attempted to keep the heavily intoxicated man out of the street while waiting for an ambulance, his behavior turned aggressive. The situation rapidly deteriorated when the suspect verbally threatened an officer and then kicked the officer in the leg. After being placed under arrest and transported to police headquarters, the suspect continued to aggressively resist and spat on multiple officers. These charges are merely accusations and the defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty. An arrest is not a finding of guilt: that’s something for a court to decide.
