Dancer Karen Pulls Knife On Police On Way To Club - A Florida Fish and Wildlife Officer was off duty and working an assignment on Northbound 275 just before the Howard Franklin Bridge. He was flagged down by a construction worker who reported that a woman on a moped was stopping workers and asking them to honk their horns. The worker also mentioned that she was driving very slowly, raising concerns that she might get stuck and hurt by traffic. Officers conducted a traffic stop on the moped and observed signs that the woman was under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol. She stated she was on her way to an adult club in Tampa from St. Petersburg. The officers noticed signs of impairment, including glossy eyes, extreme mood swings, and erratic statements, and requested that she submit to standardized field sobriety tasks (SFST). She refused multiple times. During the encounter, the woman reached into a small bag and grabbed a knife. The officers gave her loud commands to drop the knife, but she opened the blade. An officer then grabbed her arm and directed her to the ground, safely disarming her. She was detained, searched, and placed in the back of the patrol truck. She claimed she pulled out the knife for protection against the officers. EMS was called to check on her and clear her for jail. At the jail, the woman was read the implied consent and requested to submit to a urine test, to which she consented. Officer Hoppe turned the urine sample into the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office evidence center. The woman was booked into the Pinellas County Jail for resisting with violence and driving under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol. She was also issued two citations for driving the moped on an interstate and driving below the minimum speed limit.
