On March 16, 2025, Las Cruces Police Officers responded to Walmart after receiving a call from loss prevention about a woman who was being watched as a possible shoplifter. When Officers arrived, the women had attempted to exit the store, but loss prevention recovered the merchandise totaling $629. Officers located the 23-year-old shoplifter and detained her. Her story changed numerous times, but when she started talking to a male accomplice, Officers briefly detained him also. After the investigation concluded, the woman was charged with Felony Shoplifting and the male subject was released. The outcome of her criminal case was not revealed.
