Officers located the vehicle and followed it in a marked patrol unit as it merged onto westbound Interstate 94 from Highway 52. Shortly after the pursuit began, General Motors remotely disabled the vehicle, bringing it to a stop. The driver, later identified by the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension as 32-year-old Elliot Vaughn of Minneapolis, exited the vehicle along with a female passenger. Both individuals attempted to flee on foot. According to preliminary findings, Vaughn produced a handgun from his waistband and aimed it at two responding officers. In response, the officers discharged their service weapons, striking Vaughn in the leg. Officers immediately secured the scene and rendered medical aid until paramedics arrived. Vaughn was transported to Regions Hospital for treatment and later booked into jail after being medically cleared. The female passenger was located and taken into custody a short time later without further incident. No officers or bystanders were injured during the encounter. Authorities recovered a firearm at the scene. Vaughn now faces multiple felony charges, including two counts of first-degree assault, two counts of second-degree assault, and theft of a motor vehicle.
