On August 31, 2023, an officer was on patrol near Jennings State Forest when contacted regarding a trespass complaint. A stakeholder reported trail camera images of utility terrain vehicles (UTVs) on private property. Officers navigated to the area from separate directions to investigate. Upon reaching the area, one officer encountered three UTVs and initiated contact with the operators. After requesting identification from one of the individuals, later identified as Tyler, the situation escalated when one UTV fled. The officer gave commands for the lead UTV operator to return, but Tyler failed to comply. When the officer reached into Tyler's UTV to secure the key, Tyler accelerated, dragging the officer approximately 20 yards before his arm was freed. The occupants then fled the scene. The officer sustained visible injuries and was transported to a local emergency room for treatment. Law enforcement teams cross-referenced records to identify Tyler and located him at a nearby residence. Body camera footage confirmed his identity. Upon arrival at the residence, deputies observed Tyler towing a UTV on a trailer and detained him. His passenger, identified as Taylor, was interviewed but not immediately arrested. During questioning, Tyler denied involvement despite being identified in body camera footage. He was transported to the county jail and booked on charges including fleeing law enforcement, providing false information, and trespassing.
