A New Mexico politician is handcuffed outside a hot springs hotel after the manager tells 911 he pulled a gun over the bath water not being hot enough — then deputies start asking how much he's had to drink. 🎥 In today's copyrighted documentary, we report on an incident that occurred in Truth or Consequences, New Mexico. This documentary includes NEW body-worn camera footage not published in our earlier report on this case. Police records identify the man in handcuffs as Daniel "Dan" Stoddard, a former Rio Rancho city councilor who was running for the Sandoval County Commission at the time. In a written statement included in the police report, the hotel's general manager said Stoddard grabbed him by the arm, retrieved a pistol and held it at his side without pointing it, and told him he would shoot him in the head — all after complaining the bath water wasn't hot enough. The manager wrote that Stoddard then came out of the room in his underwear, still shouting. On the body-worn camera, Stoddard denies drinking, tells deputies they're the ones who are intoxicated, repeatedly presses them to take his revolver, and asks over and over who's in charge. He was detained and briefly handcuffed but never arrested. The manager declined to press charges; officers issued a trespass notice, found bottles in the room, and drove the couple to another hotel for the night. The district attorney's office declined to file charges. Court records show a separate December 2024 arrest and a related petition to seize his firearms — both dismissed. Two state legislators withdrew their endorsements after the incident was reported, and he lost the June 2 primary, 55% to 45%. Stoddard denies threatening anyone, calling it "a nothing burger" and saying the firearm was on his nightstand rather than drawn. He was not charged in this case and is presumed innocent. ⏱️ TIMESTAMPS: 00:00 Gun Threat Detention 00:09 911 Call Overview 00:55 Hot Water Complaint 01:49 Manager Details Threats 03:23 Trespass Warning Issued 03:36 Alcohol Questions Begin 04:54 Safekeeping the Gun 07:16 Bottles Found Transport 08:45 Case Outcome Summary 10:14 Prior Arrests Records 11:15 Final Thoughts Subscribe 📺 MORE LIKE THIS — watch the latest Breaking Bodycams documentaries: 👉 https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL89-g15XsVc0WxE8UISQXCrCctoEPo46v 📌 ABOUT BREAKING BODYCAMS Breaking Bodycams covers law enforcement encounters across the country, with a heavy focus on the Southwest and New Mexico.
