On Thursday, Cleveland police released additional findings from the department’s investigation into two recent shootings involving officers from outside jurisdictions. The separate shootings that involved officers from the Maple Heights Police Department and Cuyahoga Metropolitan Housing Authority are under investigation by the city of Cleveland because of where the incidents occurred. A Maple Heights officer fatally shot a 22-year-old man in Cleveland on May 30. The officer was chasing the suspect into Cleveland because it was believed he was shooting into homes in Maple Heights. The chase ended when the suspect hit a deer. According to sources, the Maple Heights officer then shot Datwaun Catchings after he brandished a gun at police. Officials said police initially responded to the complex because a man was throwing objects from his apartment balcony. He was shot by authorities during an altercation in his apartment. Officials have since identified that man as 42 year old Desmond Eskridge. In the body camera footage you can see from the time police arrive on scene through the shooting. Cleveland police said both cases are still under investigation and special prosecutors from the Ohio Attorney General’s Office to review the cases.
