On November 2, 2024, Kent State University (KSU) Police Officers received a call about a heated argument occurring between a man and a woman at a downtown bar. The female had left the location before officers could arrive. KSU Officer White located the 21-year-old woman as she was pulling into a parking lot. He stopped the vehicle and made contact with the woman and her 2 male passengers. She explained that although she had consumed alcohol, she was just trying to get away from her abusive ex-boyfriend. Because of her admission to consuming alcohol, she was asked to submit to standardized field sobriety tests. At the conclusion of the tests, she was placed under arrest for Operating a Vehicle Impaired (OVI). She was transported to the KSU police station where she agreed to submit to a breath alcohol test. Although Officer White's body camera was abruptly turned off, the police report and court records confirm that her breath alcohol level was 0.212%. She was charged with OVI and having a prohibited breath alcohol concentration (over 0.17%). On May 1, 2025, she pleaded guilty to the OVI charge. The second charge was dismissed. She was fined $425, ordered to attend a 3-day Driver's Intervention Program, and her license was suspended for 1 year.
