On February 18, 2026, an officer on routine patrol observed a vehicle make a right turn at a red light without coming to a complete stop, causing him to slow down as the vehicle continued forward. Instead of immediately stopping the vehicle, the officer followed behind to observe the driver’s behavior. As he continued following, the vehicle appeared unsteady and was seen drifting within its lane. Based on the driving pattern, the officer activated his emergency lights to initiate a traffic stop. Even after the lights were activated, the driver did not immediately pull over. The vehicle continued forward, braking multiple times before eventually turning into a parking lot. While entering the lot, the vehicle drove up over a curb and then back down before coming to a stop. Officers made contact with the driver, where signs consistent with impairment were noted, including slurred speech, bloodshot and glassy eyes, and the odor of an alcoholic beverage. During the encounter, the driver was uncooperative, refused to answer questions about alcohol consumption, and declined to participate in field sobriety exercises. Throughout the interaction, the driver repeatedly asked officers the same question regarding the reason for the arrest, continuing to do so numerous times even after being detained. Following the arrest, the driver was transported to the jail for DUI processing. According to the police report, a required observation period was conducted before requesting a breath sample. The driver was read implied consent and given multiple opportunities to provide a sample but ultimately refused. The driver was charged with driving under the influence and refusal to submit to DUI testing. A separate charge of resisting without violence was later not pursued by prosecutors. Bond was set across the charges and was posted shortly after, allowing for release from custody. The DUI-related charges remain pending as the case continues through the court process.
