Want to read the police reports and support the channel? Consider becoming a super supporter! Incident Information: On June 26th, 2024, in Grand Traverse County Michigan, a social worker with the Northwestern Michigan Community Action Agency (NMCAA) contacted police after Jeffrey Topous made suicidal statements via text. Police were able to locate Jeffrey’s campsite near the Goodwill Inn and conducted a welfare check. Jeffrey denied being suicidal and refused resources from the deputies, who ultimately cleared the scene. Shortly after clearing, the NMCAA social worker received threatening messages from Jeffrey. Additionally, Grand Traverse 911 dispatchers were informed of several bomb threats including the Law Enforcement Center, 86th District Court, the Historical Courthouse, and the Goodwill Inn. Deputies immediately began searching for Jeffrey once again. Shortly into their search, one of the deputies who had responded to the welfare check attempted a felony stop on Jeffrey, who fled on his bicycle. The deputy attempted to pursue in his vehicle, but was unable to follow Jeffrey due to the terrain. Deputies and other LE partners began setting up a perimeter around the Boardman trail. Eventually, a captain with the Grand Traverse County Sheriff’s Office encountered Jeffrey. The captain was able to successfully knock Jeffrey off balance, and a foot pursuit (of sorts) ensued. Forensic analysis of his mobile phone later confirmed the bomb threat communications. Jeffrey was eventually placed into custody. He was sentenced to 5-20 years in the Michigan Department of Corrections (MDOC).
