Welcome to Bodycam Lockdown We explore real incidents through verified body-worn camera (BWC) footage to provide an unbiased, authentic look at what happens in the field. Our goal is to educate, inform, and add context—never to sensationalize. About This Video: There is no federal statute requiring all police officers to verbally identify themselves. However, most police departments (including in Florida) have internal policies or standard operating procedures that require officers to identify themselves by name and badge number when asked — unless doing so would compromise safety or an investigation. This part is covered by actual law — specifically Florida Statute §901.151, known as the Florida Stop and Frisk Law (or “Stop-and-Identify” law). Florida Statute 901.151(2) allows an officer who has reasonable suspicion that a person has committed, is committing, or is about to commit a crime to temporarily detain that person for investigation. During this brief stop: The officer may demand the person’s name and address and an explanation of their actions. If you’re not being detained or arrested, you are not required to identify yourself at all. You can ask, “Am I being detained or am I free to go?” If they say you’re free to go, you don’t have to provide ID or stay. If they say you’re detained, then under §901.151, you must give your name and address (refusal can result in arrest for obstruction, §843.02 Educational Value: This video highlights split-second decision-making, applicable policies/procedures, and the human factors at play during police encounters. We believe informed viewers are better equipped to analyze complex scenarios and engage in constructive discussion.
