In October 2016, 22-year-old Catherine “Cati” Blauvelt was found dead inside an abandoned property in Simpsonville, South Carolina. As investigators began examining Cati’s final hours, attention increasingly turned toward her estranged husband, John Blauvelt. Detectives conducted interviews, examined physical and digital evidence, and even used hidden surveillance at Cati’s funeral home as they worked to obtain the evidence they needed. But before the investigation could close in, John disappeared—with his 17-year-old girlfriend, Hannah Thompson. What followed was a years-long search that stretched across the country. Hannah would eventually resurface and provide investigators with new information about Cati’s final hours and what she claimed John had told her while they were on the run. John remained a fugitive for nearly six years before U.S. Marshals finally located him in Oregon in 2022, where he had been living under another name. In 2024, John Blauvelt was convicted of Cati Blauvelt’s murder and sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole. This documentary examines the investigation through police interviews, investigative footage, public records, and court proceedings. This video is presented for documentary, educational, and commentary purposes. Allegations and investigative claims are identified as such; guilt is based on the subsequent criminal conviction.
