On January 21, 2026, California Highway Patrol officers were patrolling near Interstate 580 in Livermore when they received information about a stolen Mazda 6 traveling eastbound through Alameda County. CHP officers located the gray 2015 Mazda 6 that had reportedly been stolen one day earlier and confirmed that its license plate matched the wanted vehicle. As officers positioned their patrol car behind the Mazda, the driver accelerated from approximately 65 mph to more than 90 miles per hour. CHP officers activated their emergency lights and siren, but the driver continued fleeing, the driver turned off the vehicle’s exterior lights and reached speeds of approximately 130 miles per hour. The Mazda traveled through multiple freeway lanes, made several unsafe lane changes and continued for approximately 17.5 miles through moderate fog. As the police chase approached the Corral Hollow Road area, another CHP unit successfully deployed a spike strip. The Mazda’s tires began deflating, and the driver slowed down before exiting Interstate 580 at Tracy Boulevard. CHP Officers conducted a felony traffic stop, and the driver was taken into custody without further incident. Police officers found an open container of Modelo beer inside the vehicle. During questioning, the driver admitted that he knew officers were attempting to stop him and claimed he fled because he had multiple outstanding warrants, he also stated that he recorded part of the police chase and sent the video to a girl while he was fleeing the cops. The driver told officers that he did not know the Mazda was stolen and claimed he had borrowed it from a friend. Police Officers reported observing red and watery eyes, slightly slurred speech and a strong odor of alcohol. The driver allegedly admitted drinking before driving, refused a preliminary alcohol screening test and later provided two chemical breath samples measuring 0.05% BAC. The driver was arrested and booked into the Alameda County jail on the following charges: CVC 2800.2(a): Felony evading CVC 10851(a): Vehicle theft PC 487(d)(1): Grand theft automobile PC 496d(a): Possession of a stolen vehicle CVC 23152(a): Driving under the influence CVC 14601.2(a): Driving on a suspended license following a prior DUI California Highway Patrol Officers involved: Officer T.
