It turned west onto Everett Road. She followed close. She matched its speed at 45 mph in a 35 zone. She pulled it over at Everett Road and Old Barn Lane. She approached the driver, a 24-year-old woman named Kaitlin. Officer Molinari told her the stop was for speeding. Kaitlin admitted to one 16-ounce Stella beer at the Lantern bar in Lake Forest. That led to field sobriety tests. First came the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus check. Molinari saw no smooth eye tracking. Nystagmus jerked at max deviation. It did not start before 45 degrees. Next, the Walk and Turn. Kaitlin swung her arms. She turned wrong. Last, One Leg Stand. She did not lift her foot right. Balance faltered. Molinari offered a Preliminary Breath Test. It showed 0.081% BAC. Erratic drive. Alcohol smell. Her admission. Poor tests. Bad breath result. Arrest for DUI followed. Handcuffs clicked. Into the patrol car. Her Kia got towed. They took Kaitlin to Lake Forest Police station. She agreed to breath samples there. Results hit 0.067%, below 0.08%. Paperwork done. Photos taken. Prints inked. Released to her mom. Court set for December 1 at Lake County Courthouse. Citations hit for DUI, bad turn, speeding, no insurance. Court wrapped it February 13, 2024. DUI and no-insurance charges dropped.
