Deputies in Marion County attempted a traffic stop on a vehicle driving 71 mph in a 45 mph zone near Southeast 58th Avenue and Larch Road. The driver, 19‑year‑old Johnathan Leon Brooks, fled at high speed onto Highway 441, reaching speeds up to 115 mph before losing control at Southeast 110th Street and crashing the vehicle into a large tree. Both Brooks and a passenger were injured and taken to the hospital. Brooks was later arrested after he was discharged and charged with fleeing to elude law enforcement with disregard for safety, causing serious injury
