He saw a 2014 Chevrolet sedan traveling south at 82 MPH in a 55 MPH zone. Officer Rodriguez turned on his emergency lights, and the driver eventually stopped on Route 1. The driver was identified as Anastasiya Shelekhovska. While speaking with her, Officer Rodriguez smelled alcohol and noticed other signs of impairment. Anastasiya said she was driving home after leaving a friend’s house in Bloomfield, New Jersey. Sergeant Timothy McMahon arrived soon after and also smelled alcohol coming from the driver’s side. Anastasiya later admitted that she had consumed sangria earlier that evening. The officers then asked her to leave the vehicle and complete field sobriety exercises. Sergeant McMahon first performed the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus (HGN) test. He observed four of six signs of impairment. During the Walk and Turn test, Anastasiya failed to touch heel-to-toe on every step, made an improper turn, and did not keep her arms at her sides. She also struggled with the One Leg Stand test, failing to raise her foot as instructed and showing poor balance. Anastasiya’s speed, the smell of alcohol, her admission that she had been drinking, and her poor performance on the sobriety exercises led to her arrest for driving under the influence. Afterward, officers placed her in the patrol car and impounded her vehicle for a 12-hour hold under John’s Law. Officer Rodriguez first took Anastasiya to the South Brunswick Police Department for a breath test. At the station, officers read Anastasiya the Standard Statement for Motor Vehicle Operators. She agreed to provide breath samples, and Officer Raymond McCarthy operated the machine. The Alcotest showed a BAC of 0.05%, which was above 0.00% but below the legal limit of 0.08%. Once testing ended, officers returned her to the Plainsboro Township Police Department to complete the paperwork. She was later released to a family member after the family member signed the Potential Liability Warning on her behalf. She received citations for operating under the influence, reckless driving, and speeding. Court records show that her operating-under-the-influence and speeding charges were dismissed on December 13, 2023. Anastasiya pleaded guilty to reckless driving. Her license was revoked for 30 days, and she paid $240 in fines. If you enjoyed this BodyCamBust video.
