Broward County, FL – On Friday, July 10, 2026, at approximately 8:09 p.m., a Florida Highway Patrol trooper attempted to stop a white Buick Encore traveling southbound on Interstate 95 near Sunrise Boulevard after observing the vehicle speeding, making improper lane changes, following too closely, and driving with willful and wanton disregard for the safety of others. The driver failed to stop and fled, reaching speeds exceeding 100 mph while continuing to drive recklessly through traffic. Near Broward Boulevard, the fleeing vehicle struck the rear of a Toyota Camry, causing the Buick to overturn. The Camry then collided with a parked Hyundai Elantra, a marked Florida Highway Patrol patrol vehicle that was assisting at an unrelated crash scene, and a tow truck. The driver exited the overturned vehicle and fled on foot before being apprehended by the trooper after a brief foot pursuit. The driver was identified as Marqual Tavon Montgomery. Investigators determined Montgomery did not possess a valid Florida driver license. Several individuals involved in the crash sustained serious injuries and were transported to a local hospital. Montgomery was also transported to a local hospital for treatment before being medically cleared and booked into the Broward County Jail.
