He contacted the group and conducted a resource inspection. In the end, the suspect was found to be in possession of 26 female crabs, 40 undersized male crabs, and a 5-inch striped bass. In the state of Maryland, minimum size limits of crabs changes throughout the year. At the time of this interaction, the crab had a minimum size limit of 5-inches measured from tip to tip. Maryland’s striped bass regulations have seen many recent changes and I would encourage anyone harvesting them to carefully review the regulations. At the time of this encounter, there was a slot limit of 19-24 inches, making his striped bass 14 inches under the minimum slot size. He was charged with possession of over 20 female crabs, possession of male hard crabs under 5 inches, and possession of an undersized Striped Bass during the early summer season. All seized crabs and the striped bass were returned to the water. Unfortunately, we’re unable to locate the court records associated with this case but he was likely ordered to pay fines from this encounter.
