Police responded after a man reportedly told officers he wanted to go to jail before suddenly suffering what appeared to be a severe mental health crisis in the middle of a busy roadway. According to the report, officers attempted to assist the man after he claimed to be having a panic attack, leading emergency medical crews to respond to the scene. Authorities say the situation escalated when the man began speaking incoherently, running into traffic, and attempting to open doors of moving vehicles on University Avenue. Officers reportedly attempted multiple times to safely restrain him before deploying a TASER to prevent him from being struck by oncoming traffic or harming himself further. The man was eventually taken into custody and transported to UAMS for medical evaluation. Real. Raw. Right Here.
