These are actually schoolmaster snapper, which follow similar regulations to mangrove snapper. In state waters, schoolmasters must measure 10” or more total length and they have a 10 per person daily bag limit as part of the 10 snapper aggregate bag limit. In the end, Ovidiu received a misdemeanor charge for possession of undersize schoolmaster snapper. He pled no contest and was adjudicated guilty. He was sentenced to 6 months of probation with the option of early termination if the other conditions have been met. The other conditions included 50 hours of community service with the option to buy out at $10 per hour, $323 in costs, and the completion of a Florida Fish Regulations course.
