REPORT: On this day, I, Deputy Ford, observed a white vehicle on Pine Drive in Crest Ridge Drive. I noticed a black female walking to the vehicle, passenger side, rear door, trying to open it. As soon as the driver of the suspect vehicle saw my patrol car approaching down the street off Crest Ridge Drive, the driver accelerated rapidly, leaving the black female behind. The driver was moving at 64 miles per hour in a 35 mph zone when I verified it on my radar, and I made a U-turn to perform a traffic stop. The driver reached the end of the street at Norman Drive, stopped and activated his turn signal. As I approached the vehicle, the driver made a right turn onto Norman Drive. He then took a right turn into the plaza. At this juncture, the driver was speeding through the parking lot. I tried to initiate a traffic stop by activating my lights and siren, but the driver crossed to the opposite side of the parking lot before making a left turn into oncoming traffic on Riverdale Road. The driver switched to the central turn lane, moved over to the right lane, and then turned onto Crystal Lake Drive. He kept driving at a high speed. The driver then made a right turn onto Stoneham Court, turned off his lights (blacked out), and sought to evade me by heading west onto Stoneham Court and then to Seaborn Place. The driver then made a left turn onto Forest Parkway where two more Blackhawk deputies intercepted him. The driver then executed a right turn and entered Riverdale Road. The driver then abruptly turned right onto I-285 east. At this point, Lt. Carey tried to stop the vehicle, but the driver brake-checked. The driver then turned off suddenly, taking exit 58 onto Clark Howell while moving at almost 100 mph. The driver then looped, driving on the incorrect side of the road. At the intersection of Loop Road, he crossed over the median to avoid a pit maneuver. The driver then recklessly disobeyed three or four red lights, failed to yield and made numerous turns without using his turn signal. The driver then attempted to access the international terminal side of the airport. That's when Lt. Carey tried to pit the vehicle again but was unsuccessful. Observing the suspect becoming increasingly reckless and posing a threat to public safety, I employed a pursuit-ending technique (ramming) which immobilized his vehicle. At this point, the suspect, Mr. Hunt, climbed out of the vehicle through the driver's window and began to run down the street to avoid arrest. Deputy Jones and I issued verbal commands instructing Mr. Hunt to cease running and resisting, but he persisted. Deputy Jones then deployed his taser twice, causing Mr. Hunt to fall to the ground. We then took him into custody. Mr. Hunt was assessed by EMS for his injuries. He refused to provide his details or converse with me. His identity was later ascertained with the help of a rapid ID device. The vehicle, a rental, was subsequently towed. My patrol car suffered significant damage during the ramming of the suspect and had to be towed to the county garage. Mr. Hunt was transported and booked into the Clayton County Jail on 16 charges, including felony evading and reckless driving. The female passenger was freed at the scene. A search of the car revealed several indicators of drug distribution along with an undisclosed amount of cash. It is thought that the suspect disposed of any drugs in his possession during the chase. The investigation into the suspect's drug distribution continues.
