On the evening of June 28, 2024, Wheaton Police were called to a local store after reports of an intoxicated person bothering customers. Employees advised that the subject, a man in his 20s, had been following them around, acting belligerent, and was even seen spitting on someone and throwing a bottle of juice at a patron. When officers arrived on the scene, they observed the subject aggressively yelling at another patron. The situation quickly escalated as officers attempted to detain him. The subject resisted, stiffening his arms and refusing to comply with orders, even while having his belt wrapped around his fist. Officers worked to control the situation, but the subject continued to struggle and flail, eventually causing himself and an officer to fall to the ground. Once on the ground, the subject continued to yell and kick his legs. Backup units were requested due to the aggressive actions. Later, while being placed into the squad car, the subject again displayed defensive resistance, stiffening his legs and refusing to sit properly. He also made threats to spit on an officer, requiring a spit mask. The subject's resistance resulted in multiple red abrasion marks and scratches on the reporting officer's right leg and both arms, and a three-inch abrasion mark on another officer's right elbow. All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty
