Please like, comment, and SHARE! 🙏 🔍 Episode Overview: At about 12:42 AM on May 23, 2025, Officer Michael Smith of the Washington Township Police Department in Morris County saw a white 2018 Ford Mustang traveling on the shoulder near 6 Route 46 West. He caught up with the car and stopped it near the Speedway gas station in nearby Hackettstown. Once the driver pulled over, Smith approached and identified her as 20-year-old Daniela Bermudez Canaveral. While speaking with Daniela, Officer Smith noticed a faint smell of alcohol. He also saw that she wore a wristband showing she was over 21, even though her driver’s license listed her age as 20. Daniela said she had come from the Mohawk House in Sparta, where she worked, and denied drinking that night. She later admitted that she had consumed some alcohol at a concert earlier that afternoon and had also smoked marijuana. After Sergeant Roger Garrison arrived, officers asked Daniela to leave the vehicle and perform field sobriety tests because they suspected she was impaired. Officer Smith began with the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus, or HGN, test. He reported four of six signs of impairment. During the Walk and Turn test, Daniela failed to touch heel-to-toe on every step, made an improper turn, and took the wrong number of steps. She also failed the One Leg Stand test by lifting her foot incorrectly and counting out of sequence. Based on the traffic violations, Daniela’s hesitant admission that she had consumed alcohol and marijuana earlier that day, and her performance during the tests, officers arrested her for DWI. Her car was impounded for a 12-hour hold under John’s Law. Officer Smith then took Daniela to the Washington Township Police Department for processing. At the station, officers read Daniela the Standard Statement for Motor Vehicle Operators. She agreed to provide breath samples, and her Alcotest results showed a BAC of 0.00%. The result indicated that she was completely sober. After processing ended, Daniela was released to her father while awaiting court, after he signed the Potential Liability Warning form for her. Sergeant Notte issued Daniela two traffic tickets: Operating under the influence underage (39:4-50.14) Traffic on marked lanes (39:4-88) Court records show that the underage operating-under-the-influence charge was dismissed on July 10, 2025.
