On February 20, 2026, in Compton, California Highway Patrol officers attempted to stop a quad-style ATV allegedly being operated illegally on a public roadway near Wilmington Avenue and Alondra Boulevard. The rider failed to yield and led CHP officers on a pursuit through city streets and along railroad tracks before abandoning the vehicle and fleeing on foot. CHP Air Operations assisted officers during the incident while police bodycam and dashcam footage captured the pursuit and investigation. The ATV rider ran multiple traffic signals, exceeded speed limits, and entered railroad tracks during the police chase. Officers later found the abandoned Yamaha Raptor 700 and followed up with an investigation that helped them identify the suspected rider by matching physical characteristics to the registered owner. They also confirmed the quad hadn’t been reported stolen. The case was then sent to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office for review and possible prosecution.
