On 1/22/2024, tragedy struck as a car collided with the rear of a parked Spectrum truck on Lake Street in Kent, resulting in one fatality and injuries to two others. Kent Police Lt. Mike Lewis reported on Tuesday that a Spectrum worker was in the process of removing equipment from the bucket truck to conduct work on a nearby pole, just east of Edgewood Drive. At 8:46 p.m., an eastbound Chevrolet Malibu crashed into the back of the parked truck. The passenger of the car, William A. Williams, aged 55 and from Kent, was pronounced dead at the scene. Notably, he was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collision, according to Lewis. The Spectrum employee, a 33-year-old man from Akron, was transported to Summa Health System's Akron Campus, while the driver of the Malibu, a 50-year-old Kent resident, was taken to Cleveland Clinic Akron General Hospital. Both individuals sustained serious injuries, although they are reportedly non-life-threatening. ⚠️Note: Footage from this video was obtained via the Ohio Public Records Act (R.C. 149.43) All persons featured on the channel are to be presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
