On September 1, 2024, Las Cruces police officers were called to the Walmart after loss prevention agents observed 2 women shoplifting. By the time officers arrived, the 2 women had departed the store with the stolen merchandise, which included a box of tampons. Officer Castaneda located the suspect's vehicle a short distance away and initiated a traffic stop. After reading the women their Miranda rights, they admitted to stealing the items and provided police with the stolen merchandise. They were both issued criminal citations for shoplifting and were released.
