On July 31, 2025, Rio Rancho Police Officers received a Be On the Lookout (BOLO) for a Nissan Armada that picked up two girls, ages 12 and 13. The girls were the nieces of the calling party, and she wanted to report them as missing. Sgt. Griffith located a vehicle matching the description and initiated a traffic stop. The vehicle was being driven by a 38-year-old woman who gave conflicting stories about how she came in contact with 2 of the 4 children in her vehicle. Sgt. Griffith also felt the woman was intoxicated, so Officer Koger was assigned to conduct a drunk driving investigation. The woman was asked to perform standardized field sobriety tests. At the conclusion of the tests, she was placed under arrested for Driving While Under the Influence and Having No Driver's License. At the police station, she provided two breath samples and the results were 0.20% and 0.19% BAC. Her case is still open and all suspects are presumed to be innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
