What does neighbourhood policing really look like on the ground? In this episode of On the Beat, we follow the Wood Street Safer Neighbourhood Team in Waltham Forest as they hit the streets to respond to local concerns, support victims, and take on crime, all while building trust with their community. This is precise community crime fighting. Burglary. Shoplifting. Violence against women and girls. These are the crimes that matter to residents and the focus for local officers. That's why in July 2025 alone, the team increased the number of arrests made in July. From tackling drug hotspots to engaging with shopkeepers and safeguarding vulnerable residents, you’re joining our team on a shift to get a unique, up-close look at how dedicated officers’ work day and night to keep London’s communities safe. Follow the team as they begin their patrol in Chingford as they tackle issues that hit close to home. Whether it’s cracking down on prolific shoplifters, targeting repeat burglars, or safeguarding women at risk, their mission is clear: protect the community and prevent harm. This is frontline neighbourhood policing, visible, responsive, and rooted in local priorities. 🔎 What you’ll see in this video: • Officers on foot patrol and engaging with locals • Response to anti-social behaviour and community intel • How Met officers use community relationships to prevent crime • A look inside the role of police community support officers (PCSOs) • Real conversations, real policing, real community members • Joint patrols targeting shops affected by repeat theft • Officers knocking on doors in burglary hotspots • Community outreach on tackling violence against women and girls (VAWG) • Engagement with residents, businesses, and vulnerable individuals • Real outcomes from real intelligence 📲 Stay connected to what’s happening in your area with Met Engage updates, advice, and local policing news straight from your team: www.metengage.co.uk 0:00 Introduction 0:39 – 1:29 Team briefing to kickstart the day 1:29 – 2:39 The team head off to victims of burglary and give them free video doorbells to deter criminals 2:39 – 4:08 Officers engage with shop owners, local community members to find out what their concerns are 4:08 – 5:00 Fighting shoplifting in the local co-op on Wood Green high street 5:03 – 5:29 Officers tackle knife crime on local high street as part of the investigation 5:30 – 6:59 Closure order for local brothel to safeguard and protect women and girls 7:00 – 8:03 Officers apprehend two men for shoplifting in a local Morrisons.
