On September 15, 2023, Officer Brock Westerman with the Pullman Police Department conducted a traffic stop after a 2017 Kia Sportage failed to signal turns and nearly struck a curb. The driver, 19-year-old Mairead Quigley, showed signs of impairment including bloodshot eyes and the odor of alcohol. During the roadside investigation, Quigley was uncooperative and refused to complete field sobriety tests. Based on the driving behavior and observed indicators of intoxication, Officer Westerman arrested her for DUI. At the police station, a breath test confirmed a BAC of 0.179% (over twice the legal limit). Quigley later pleaded guilty to DUI and was sentenced to 1 day in jail, 24 months of probation, and a 90-day license suspension.
