On February 11, 2024, a Deputy with the Portage County Sheriff's Office conducted a registration check on a vehicle while on patrol in the City of Kent. The vehicle was entered as a stolen vehicle. The vehicle was reported stolen from a business in Franklin Township the previous evening. The Deputy attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the vehicle in the area of Water St and Main St. The driver of the vehicle failed to comply with the traffic stop and a pursuit was initiated. The pursuit continued east bound on Main St through the City of Kent into Franklin Township. The Deputy continued to pursue the vehicle on STHY 59 through Franklin Township. The pursuit was terminated in the 2800 block of STHY 59 due to excessive speeds of the stolen vehicle. The stolen vehicle continued east bound on STHY 59 towards Ravenna. A short time after the initial pursuit, PCSO dispatch received an anonymous tip that the stolen vehicle was in the area of Main St in the City of Ravenna. A Deputy who was on patrol in the City of Ravenna at the time then observed the stolen vehicle. When the driver of the vehicle observed the Deputy in the area, they sped off at a high rate of speed, failing to stop for a stop sign. The Deputy then attempted to catch up to the vehicle, west bound on Main St. The Deputy attempted a traffic stop on the stolen vehicle, but the driver failed to comply, and another pursuit was initiated. The pursuit started west bound on Main St in the City of Ravenna and continued west bound on STHY 59 through Ravenna and Franklin Township before entering the City of Kent. The driver of the stolen vehicle then struck several vehicles stopped at the red light on Main St at Luther Ave. The stolen vehicle continued through the red light at Luther Ave but sustained disabling damage. The stolen vehicle came to rest on Main St in the west bound lane. When the Deputy came to a stop behind the vehicle, two male occupants fled on foot from the vehicle. A female passenger also fled on foot. The driver of the vehicle fled towards the Kent State University campus and was apprehended by Deputies after a foot pursuit on campus. The male passenger was apprehended after a foot pursuit behind a nearby business on Main St. The female passenger was not apprehended at this time. The driver of the stolen vehicle was identified as a 17 year old male who was reported missing out of Wooster. The male had several warrants for his arrest and did not have a valid drivers license. The male was taken by ambulance to UHPMC to be evaluated for minor injuries sustained during the foot pursuit. He was later booked into the Portage County Juvenile Detention Center on multiple charges. The male passenger was identified as 18 year old Treshaun Thompson out of Twinsburg. He was booked into the Portage County Jail on one count of Obstructing Official Business.
