On September 14, 2024, an officer was on patrol when a BOLO was issued over the radio regarding a hit-and-run investigation related to an incident that had occurred approximately 30 minutes earlier in the area. The officer observed a dark blue truck failing to maintain its lane, prompting him to initiate a traffic stop, as he believed he had located the vehicle in question. After concluding the DUI investigation, which the individual had taken over the officer informed him of the findings and introduced him to another officer who was conducting a hit-and-run investigation related to an incident that occurred on September 13, 2024, at approximately 11:22 PM in a local area. The officer noticed that the individual's vehicle appeared to match the suspect vehicle shown in a video by a witness to the crash. Additionally, the vehicle's license plate was very similar to the one provided by the witness. The officer observed significant damage to the front grille guard, which was bent backwards and appeared to have silver paint transfer, consistent with the damage to the victim's vehicle—a silver Chevrolet sedan that sustained substantial damage, rendering it a total loss. The investigating officer later concluded that the individual was the driver responsible for the crash, a fact that the individual admitted. It was noted that there was a heated argument occurring at the time of the incident. Based on the evidence and circumstances, there was probable cause to believe that the individual intentionally violated the law by leaving the scene of the crash without fulfilling the required obligations.
