What began as an unauthorized tent encampment on Emory University’s Quad became two separate confrontations—first over the tents, then over yellow police tape. Atlanta Police bodycam footage captures the warnings, pepper spray deployment, arrests, and the moment a student removed the secured perimeter before additional arrests followed. On April 25, 2024, several dozen demonstrators erected tents while protesting the war in Gaza, Emory University’s alleged financial connections to Israel, and Atlanta’s planned Public Safety Training Center, commonly known as “Cop City.” After repeated trespass warnings and orders to leave, Emory Police requested assistance from the Atlanta Police Department and Georgia State Patrol. This video summarizes more than four hours of released body-camera footage in chronological order. It covers the initial removal of protesters from the tents, the temporary arrest-processing area, confrontations at the yellow police tape, a student pushing an officer, and another student spitting at an officer. In total, 28 people were arrested, including 20 members of the Emory community. Chapters: 00:00 - Introduction & Campus Overview 01:10 - Dispersal Warnings & Initial Response 04:45 - Encampment Cleared & First Arrests 10:30 - Establishing the Police Perimeter 16:15 - Crowd Escalation & Perimeter Breach 21:50 - Detainee Transport & Summary 25:10 - Tactical & Legal Analysis Some moments are presented with light humor to keep the lengthy footage engaging. That humor is not intended to dismiss lawful protest or political disagreement. Texas Safety Watch fully supports the First Amendment rights to free speech, peaceful assembly, and lawful protest—regardless of viewpoint. Three arrested Emory professors later had their misdemeanor charges dismissed. In April 2026, they filed a civil lawsuit challenging the university’s response. Emory denies wrongdoing and maintains that the lawsuit is without merit.
