On February 17th, 2022, Officer Sodon of the Atlantic Highlands Police Department (NJ) responded to the area of Ocean Boulevard and Second Avenue for a report of a motor vehicle accident into a tree. Upon his arrival, Officer Sodon located the vehicle with the driver, Mr. Michael Tyrrell (of Morganville, NJ), outside his vehicle which was observed to have sustained disabling damage to the front of the vehicle with airbags deployed. After making contact and while speaking with Michael, Officer Sodon reported detecting an odor of an alcoholic beverage emitting from Michael’s breath. He stated he observed him slurring his speech and Michael admitted to having consumed alcohol as well as that he was on other medication. After declining medical transportation to a local hospital for further evaluation, Michael engaged in field sobriety testing. During said testing, Michael showed several signs of impairment and was later arrested for driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol. He was then transported to the police station where he submitted samples of his breath for testing which yielded a BAC result of 0.07%. Michael was issued citations for DUI, Reckless driving, and failure to maintain lane. He was then released with a court date. ______________________________________________ All videos and case documents were obtained pursuant to the New Jersey Open Public Records Act, N.J.S.A. 47:1A-1 et seq.
