On April 8, 2024, a law enforcement officer attempted a traffic stop after noticing a driver was not wearing a seatbelt. The driver immediately fled, initiating a high-speed pursuit where he drove in the wrong direction of travel and reached speeds exceeding 60 mph in a 25 mph zone. During the chase, an unsuccessful attempt to immobilize the vehicle resulted in a collision with a parked, unoccupied car. The driver eventually drove into an open area, abandoned the vehicle, and fled on foot before being apprehended and taken into custody. Authorities later discovered the driver had no valid license and was wanted on an active warrant for domestic battery. Most significantly, a child and the driver's pregnant girlfriend were passengers inside the vehicle during the entire dangerous incident. The driver was charged with aggravated fleeing with property damage, child neglect without great bodily harm, and resisting an officer.
