On February 6, 2024, Rio Rancho Police Officers Benavidez and Wilson observed a vehicle with expired registration. By the time they could turn around to stop the vehicle, the driver had made an abrupt turn into a gas station. Officers Benavidez and Wilson pulled in behind the vehicle and made contact with the 18-year-old driver. The police report indicates that Officer Benavidez could immediately smell alcohol coming from the vehicle. However, the woman denied consuming alcohol. Trainee Officer Wilson then took over the investigation and requested the woman exit her vehicle in order to perform standardized field sobriety tests. She was placed under arrest and was transported to the Rio Rancho Police Station, where she agreed to submit to an evidential breath test. The result was 0.16% BAC (twice the legal limit for someone over the age of 21, but 8 times the legal limit since she is under age 21). Her complete list of charges is listed at the end of the video. Online court records indicate she failed to appear for a court date and there is an active warrant for her arrest.
