A seemingly simple school departure takes a dangerous turn when officers intercept a distraught driver exhibiting signs of severe impairment. Responding to a report from school staff about a potentially impaired individual, officers located a silver 2015 Hyundai driving erratically towards a landscaping trailer. Upon making contact, the driver, who was reportedly distraught after being asked to leave the school, claimed to be having a panic attack. However, officers observed clear indicators of impairment, prompting a full DUI investigation by backup units. The driver initially resisted exiting the vehicle for field sobriety exercises but eventually complied. During the standardized field sobriety tests, the individual displayed significant difficulties, failing to perform the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus test adequately, exhibiting multiple errors on the Walk and Turn test including improper turns and incorrect steps, and failing to maintain balance during the One Leg Stand. Based on the observed erratic driving and poor performance on these exercises, the driver was placed under arrest for driving under the influence. A subsequent search of the vehicle revealed six bottles of vodka. After initial refusal, the driver agreed to breath samples, which later registered extremely high blood alcohol content levels of 0.311% and 0.305%, nearly four times the legal limit.
