He followed the car and pulled it over near Valley Road on Providence Court. The driver, 21-year-old Elenor, said she was taking friends home from a bar. As Deputy Olin spoke with her, he smelled alcohol and noticed signs of impairment. Elenor first said she had not been drinking. After he asked her to step out, she admitted to having one drink at Zeppoz around midnight. The Deputy then asked her to take field sobriety tests. During the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus test, he observed four of six clues of impairment. Elenor had trouble touching heel to toe during the Walk and Turn, made incorrect turns, and took too many or too few steps. On the One Leg Stand, she did not raise her foot properly and failed to watch it throughout the test. Elenor was then offered a Preliminary Breath Test. It showed a blood alcohol content of 0.132%. After seeing the result, she said she had actually consumed a double shot after her shift ended at 11:30 p.m. The traffic violation, odor of alcohol, test performance, and PBT result led Deputy Olin to arrest her for DUI. He first took her to the Pullman Police Department for booking. She asked to speak with a lawyer, then agreed to breath tests. Both readings were 0.128 BAC. Afterward, officers took her to the Whitman County Jail, where she was booked and charged with DUI under RCW 46.61.502. She was later released to await her court date.
