Around 3:52 PM on September 22, 2023, Eatontown Police responded to a report of shoplifting at the Target located at 56 State Highway 36. Target Asset Protection reported that a woman wearing a denim jacket left the store with a cart after paying for only some items at self-checkout. Officers checked the nearby TJ Maxx and located the suspect in under a minute. Police observed her pushing a Target shopping cart inside TJ Maxx and escorted her outside to inventory the merchandise. Recovered merchandise (approx. $499.99 total): Elvie Stride Plus hospital-grade breast pump — $319.99 Additional female cosmetic products — approx. $180 Based on witness accounts from Target Asset Protection and surveillance footage, 25-year-old Maryeris Ernestina Velasquez Joya was arrested for shoplifting (2C:20-11B(1)) and transported to the Eatontown Police Department for processing. She was photographed and fingerprinted, then released at 5:20 PM with a summons to appear in court on November 14, 2023. Records also indicate she had a prior shoplifting arrest at the same Target about two weeks earlier on September 7, 2023.
