On April 19, 2024, at approximately 1859 hours, officers with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) were on vessel patrol in Palm Beach County. While patrolling the Intracoastal Waterway near North Palm Beach Marina, officers observed a Florida-registered vessel, , cruising with five occupants on board. A vessel stop was initiated to conduct a safety inspection. Upon inspection, the vessel was found to be missing a required sound-producing device and was short one life jacket. Officers also detected a strong odor commonly associated with alcoholic beverages coming from the vessel. Further inspection revealed numerous empty beverage containers, including cans and bottles of Twisted Tea, Bud Light, Corona, and Busch, as well as a hatch filled with unopened chilled beverages. When asked, none of the occupants confirmed abstaining from alcohol. Some passengers displayed signs of impairment, including bloodshot, glassy eyes and difficulty speaking clearly. The operator of the vessel was issued a misdemeanor citation for violating Florida Administrative Code due to the presence of regulated beverages onboard. Additionally, two written warnings were issued for the absence of a sound-producing device and an insufficient number of personal flotation devices (PFDs). Other occupants were cited for possession of beverages in a manner not permitted by law. Photographs of the beverages onboard were taken with a state-issued phone, and all full containers were disposed of. The entire incident was recorded on an agency-issued body-worn camera.
