On October 27, 2024, around 2:00 AM, New Mexico State Police responded to a crash on I-25 northbound near the Comanche exit in Albuquerque. But what was already a dangerous scene for first responders turned into a nightmare. As officers were managing the initial wreck, 28-year-old Rebecca Melchor came speeding down the interstate — and slammed directly into the crash scene, hitting a firefighter who was actively assisting the victims. Bodycam footage captures the dramatic aftermath as officers quickly assess the chaos, question witnesses, and confront Rebecca, who showed clear signs of intoxication. She admitted to drinking and was found with open containers of alcohol inside her vehicle. Melchor was immediately arrested and is now facing multiple charges, including: Driving While Intoxicated (DWI) Careless Driving Reckless Driving Causing Injury with a Vehicle In a statement, AFR Fire Chief Emily Jaramillo said: "This weekend, one of our own was seriously injured while answering a call for service. AFR firefighters face these dangers daily, and we are reminded of their courage and commitment in moments like this." This tragic event is a chilling reminder: 🚫 Don’t drink and drive. 🚑 First responders risk their lives for ours — don’t put them in danger. Don't forget to subscribe!
