After the vehicle was stopped, the driver was identified as 19-year-old Sayda Coleman. When asked if she had been drinking, Sayda denied being under the influence and claimed she was 21 years old. The officer noticed the smell of an alcoholic beverage coming from the car and saw a wristband on Sayda’s arm, suggesting she had just come from a bar or club. Sayda handed over a Virginia driver’s license, but when it was checked, the system couldn’t verify it as valid. That raised serious suspicion that she was using a fake ID while underage. Sayda was asked to step out of the car and perform standard DUI field sobriety tests, and every moment of the traffic stop was captured on police bodycam—from her answers and excuses to her performance on the tests. Sayda later agreed to take a breathalyzer test, which showed a BAC of 0.166 percent—more than twice the legal limit for an adult driver and far above Florida’s strict zero-tolerance law for anyone under 21, which begins at 0.02 percent. She was arrested and charged with DUI, possession of a fake ID, and violating Florida’s underage zero-tolerance DUI law. Coleman was transported to the Boca Raton Police Department for booking, then taken to the Palm Beach County Jail, where she was held for the mandatory 8-hour period before being released with a court date.
