On November 11th, 2022 at 7:43 am, a Monroe County Sheriff’s Officer was on patrol on US Route 1 when they noticed a black motorcycle speeding over the legally posted 45 MPH limit. The MCSO officer utilized their radar to confirm that the motorcycle was in fact speeding. The reading showed the driver was going 117 MPH, a total of 72 MPH over the posted limit. Upon confirming the speed the officer turned on their emergency lights and sirens and attempted to pull over the driver of the motorcycle who maintained his speed and initially did not stop. Upon gaining distance on the motorcyclist the officer, whose sirens and lights were still active, observed the motorcyclist attempt to brake twice. In the officer's report, he stated “This indicated to me that the operator was either braking to slow down, or shifting gears.”. When approaching closer the motorcyclist began accelerating and actively fleeing from the officer. The motorcycle was seen driving recklessly to avoid the patrol car and forced vehicles off the roadway from both sides of traffic. The officer reported they began driving at an “excess of 80 MPH” in their patrol vehicle to maintain sight of the motorcyclist and attempt to pull him over. After three miles the officer lost sight of the black motorcycle at Mile Marker 23. The officer discontinued the pursuit due to safety reasons as advised by their supervisor. Once the pursuit had been discontinued the officer radioed a description of the motorcycle and the motorcyclist to other deputies in the area. Approximately six miles on the same stretch of the road another deputy spotted the motorcyclist traveling at an unlawful speed and passing other drivers in the center turn lane. The deputy turned on their emergency lights and sirens and attempted to pull over the motorcyclist. After two miles the motorcyclist was apprehended at Mile Marker 31. The suspect was immediately taken into custody and handcuffed. Three separate officers responded to the scene who were in the area. Upon agreeing to talk with officers the suspect admitted he was traveling to Ft. Lauderdale from Key West and was trying to make it back on time for his flight. He admitted to having driven recklessly and blamed being late for his flight and trying to make it on time for his actions. He also stated to officers that he did not see the officer's patrol vehicle or his attempts to stop and pull him over. The officer further questioned the suspect's claims of not seeing the patrol vehicle, which had its red and blue emergency lights flashing as well as its sirens activated at the time. The officer also went on to question the suspect about the two brake or shifting gears attempts and actively fleeing the officer. The suspect replied, “ I would never.”. The officers began to document his belongings and conduct a search after the arrest. While going through the suspect's backpack a clear plastic bag containing a leafy substance was found. Officers conducted a field test of the substance which tested the positive presence of THC/marijuana. The suspect did not at the time of arrest possess a medical marijuana card or prescription out of any US State. The suspect confirmed to officers he had bought the substance earlier in Key West for $80. The suspect was taken to Key West Jail and was charged with a felony charge of Flee With Disregard of Safety to Persons or Property and two misdemeanors of Reckless Driving 1st Offense and Marijuana Possession of Not More Than 20 Grams. #police #cop #bodycam #arrest #policechase ~~~ Chapters: 00:00 Intro 00:32 Suspect Seen Speeding 01:55 Suspect Speeding Past Second Officer 03:46 Officer Arresting the Suspect 14:04 Officer Searches the Suspect's Bag 25:10 Suspect Arrives at Jail ~~~ RealBodyCams is a YouTube Channel where we provide video content covering US law enforcement & crime. We are dedicated to providing exclusive police related news and events in an informational and unbiased fashion.
