On April 27, 2024, Kent Police Officer Kern observed a vehicle travel the wrong way on a one-way street. After singing a little song to his civilian ride-along, he initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle, which was being driven by a 22-year-old woman. The woman admitted coming from Barflyy, a retro bar and arcade near the campus of Kent State University. While the woman initially denied consuming any alcohol, Officer Kern advised her that he could smell alcohol coming from the vehicle. She was asked to step out of the vehicle in order to perform standardized field sobriety tests. While she was being placed under arrest and handcuffed, her 22-year-old passenger exited the car and became obnoxious and hostile towards the officers. She was eventually arrested for Obstructing Official Business. The driver submitted to a breath alcohol test at the police station and the result was 0.206% BAC.
