Flock may have read the license plate correctly. The deeper problem was that New Jersey manufacturer plates can share the same large characters while using smaller sequence numbers to distinguish individual plates. The missing plate was 34 03 DTM. Joel Feder’s plate was 34 10 DTM. But the stolen-plate entry reportedly listed only 34 DTM, allowing multiple legitimate plates to trigger the same alert.
