On February 3, 2025, a woman entered a Publix supermarket on Lake Worth Road in Palm Beach County, Florida, and allegedly loaded more than $1,300 in merchandise into personal bags and a grocery cart without paying. When store employees confronted her, she claimed to be a law enforcement officer with the Broward County Sheriff's Office — and provided a badge number to a 911 operator.
