On August 30th, 2024, officers responded to a local credit union after receiving reports of a suspicious transaction involving thousands of dollars. What initially appeared to be a routine fraud alert quickly escalated into a full investigation when bank staff discovered that nearly $19,000 had been transferred from a victim’s account into another man’s account. As officers made contact, the man claimed he was simply receiving payment for work he had completed. But as the investigation unfolded, inconsistencies in his story began to surface. Authorities soon learned the funds were linked to an imposter scam, where a victim was tricked into giving up their banking information—leading to unauthorized transfers. Bodycam footage captures the tense interaction as officers question the suspect, verify details with bank officials, and piece together what really happened. What started as a simple withdrawal attempt quickly turned into a case involving serious fraud allegations. The man was ultimately charged with multiple offenses related to financial fraud and theft exceeding $10,000. He later accepted a plea agreement, resulting in jail time, probation, and restitution.
