On November 9, 2024, Las Cruces Police Officers were called by a homeless woman to conduct a welfare check. According to the woman, she heard the sounds of a horrible car crash nearby. When officers went to the location that was described, they found a traffic signal pole down in the middle of the street, as well as car parts all over the road. Officers searched nearby apartment buildings for the next hour until they located a vehicle with damage consistent with the crash scene. Inside the back seat of the vehicle was the owner of the crashed car. When she was questioned by police, she denied being the driver of the vehicle. She was asked to participate in field sobriety tests, but she refused. She was then placed under arrest. She kept to her story and repeatedly denied being the driver of the vehicle. However, she was still booked on numerous charges and was transported to the Dona Ana County Detention Center. Do you think the charges will stick?
