On June 17, 2021, at 8:21 PM in Arcata, California, University police stopped a vehicle after seeing a juvenile passenger dangerously hanging out of the sunroof. What followed became a viral controversy. 20-year-old Samantha Alonso Luna, a passenger in the car, became confrontational with Humboldt State University Sgt. Janelle Jackson after the minor was arrested. Luna demanded answers, refused to provide her full legal name, and began arguing with officers. When the officer told her she was under arrest, Luna resisted—screaming, swearing, and grabbing the officer’s hair. It took five officers to subdue her. The viral footage shows the moment she was dragged out of the car by her hair, sparking nationwide debate. Samantha Luna was charged with resisting arrest, battery on a peace officer, public intoxication, and providing false ID, but in April 2022, she resolved the case through an informal diversion program, and all charges were dismissed. 📽️ This video includes the full footage, a breakdown of what led up to the arrest, and a summary of the legal outcome. 👇 Was this police brutality, or did Samantha push the situation too far?
